Biografie
Willy Villasmil (*1984) studied Mechanical Engineering and graduated with honors in 2006 from the Simon Bolivar University in Venezuela. In 2008, he joined the Institute of Energy Technology at ETH Zurich, where he obtained his MSc and PhD degrees, in 2010 and 2013, respectively. During his graduate studies, his research focused on the simulation and experimental demonstration of novel processes for solar fuel production through high-temperature thermochemical cycles. After obtaining his PhD, he was appointed as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Solar Technology Laboratory at the Paul Scherrer Institute until 2015. He then joined the energy industry, working as a Senior Development Engineer at Flow Products Ltd (Chester, UK), where he contributed to the development of a micro-CHP system for residential applications.
In 2017, Willy Villasmil joined the Competence Center Thermal Energy Storage at HSLU. In his role as Senior Research Associate, he manages a variety of applied R&D projects with a focus on the development of novel concepts and cost-effective materials for seasonal thermal energy storage.
