Overview

The demand for qualified and strategically oriented organisational and people management experts is increasing due to the rapid transformation of many industries. Our working world is changing, and changing fast. Many functions are disappearing completely, while new ones are being created. The gap between the skills people have and the skills needed for today's and tomorrow's jobs is one of the most pressing issues of our time.

With a major in People Management and Organsation, you will be able to initiate, design and successfully accompany strategically important and complex corporate processes in human resource management (HRM), leadership and organisational development. This interdisciplinary master's program combines practice-oriented, well-founded knowledge with proven application expertise. The modules listed below form the basis for competence development:

The consecutive Master in Business Administration is future-oriented, the study contents correspond to the needs and expectations of companies in a constantly changing, globally networked and increasingly digital world. This Master combines the latest economic, psychological and sociological approaches in the field of organization and human resources and is characterized by a high level of application. The design of people management processes is understood as a creative and entrepreneurial task. At the same time, the effects of new technologies and societal developments on the working world of tomorrow are also critically examined. 

Exciting career paths are open not only at the operational and strategic level in organizational development and HRM. The PMO major also enables graduates to take on challenging specialist and management tasks in the field of corporate development. Graduates take on key functions as generalists for organizational development, learning & development, personnel support and consulting. But people management specialist professions such as recruiting & employer branding, talent management or employee experience are also open to them. And of course, a doctorate is also a promising option.

The Master's graduates of the Lucerne School of Business have also proven to be outstanding start-up founders.

Graduate profile

Graduates from the Major in People Management and Organisation will be well trained for a career in all areas of people management and organisational transformation. They will be well equipped with a practical and hands-on background to develop organisations in all industries.

  • At the same time, they have completed a scientifically sound and application-oriented university education at the Master's level of 90 ECTS-credits.
  • Their knowledge and skills enable them to quickly familiarize themselves with all aspects of people management and transformational processes.

Field of activity

Graduates may pursue their career in such key functions as:

  • Generalists for holistic transformation and organisational development, learning & development, HR support and consulting.
  • But also the people management specialist professions such as in the areas of Recruiting & Employer Branding, Talent Management, Employee Experience, Social Media Recruitment or Conversational Design are open.
Admission

Admission to the Master of Science in Business Administration is subject to the following conditions:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, business psychology, law, sociology, social work, pedagogy  or a related qualification
  • An ability to follow tuition in English at university level.
  • A high level of motivation and readiness to work hard.
  • A positive outcome from the admission interview.
 
Requirement

Requirement concerning the target language for teaching and learning:
English C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (in documented cases the C1 certificate requirement may be waived)

International

During their studies, students have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad as part of an exchange visit. They can choose a university from the list of cooperation partners or, as «free movers», organise their own stay abroad at a university of their choice.

Regular study programme: 4 semesters

Extended study programme: 6 - 8 semesters

Study in 3 semesters possible: For students who want to complete their studies in three semesters, we have put together a new program. This program is intensive and can be completed with a professional activity of 20-30%.

Employment up to a half-time job is possible in conjunction with the study programme.

For international students: the study workload demands a commitment of 25 contact hours per week (lectures, group-work exercises, projects)

As this is a 90 ECTS credits program, after successful completion you may be eligible to apply for a PhD program at one of our partner schools.

Academic and practical relevance

The Master of Science in Business Administration provides a practically oriented, research-based, internationally aligned specialist and management education in Business Administration. It is an attractive option for holders of a bachelor's degree from a university-level institution.

Teaching and training culture

We focus on an innovative learning culture! Inquiry learning, independent learning, digital learning and small group coached learning. We develop our own simulation games, online assessments, we open creative spaces, we promote interdisciplinary collaboration and cultural intelligence. Lecturers, wellversed in theory and with a wealth of practical experience, are on hand to ensure that students receive the appropriate blend of theory and practice at master's level.

Services

The Lucerne School of Business offers the following services to students:
- Smart-Up aims to motivate students and encourage them to pursue their business ideas, put them into practice and establish their own start-up business. 
- Entrepreneurial students can receive support in the form of one-on-one coaching and advice, infrastructure, matching with other students and external stakeholders, workshops and events. 
- The Careers Service of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts provides students with a range of activities and offers when making the transition into a new career or planning their career path.  These include mentoring or peer programmes, recruitment fairs or initial contact meetings. The Careers Service works with external partners to offer solutions that are tailored to the needs of students. 
- The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts Language Centre offers language tuition that goes beyond the prescribed contents of the degree programmes and fosters an international outlook. The tuition provided by the University takes into account the growing importance of language skills in our increasingly mobile society.

Careers Service supports students with various activities. They offer career entry and career planning as well as mentoring programs and other events in cooperation with various partners. Supportive offers are created tailored to the individual needs of the students.

Cross-disciplinary modules

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts offers interdisciplinary studies in partnership with the University of Lucerne and the University of Teacher Education Lucerne. These Interdisciplinary Learning Programmes (ISAs) offer a wide range of cultural, economic, technical, legal, political and ethical courses. They are taught as modules and the content is designed to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and broaden horizons.

At the Language Center, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts offers language training and continuing education that goes beyond the mandatory content of the degree programs attended and promotes internationalization. In this way, the university takes into account the growing importance of language skills in our increasingly mobile society.
