Severin Nowak joined the Institute of Electrical Engineering at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences (HSLU) as a Research Associate in January 2021. Here, he combines his industrial experience in the renewable energy sector and power systems research to provide applied research related to digitalization of energy systems.
Severin Nowak has received a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering with focus on electric power systems from The University of British Columbia, Kelowna, BC, Canada. Throughout his research he has focused on the integration of various energy technologies into electrical distribution systems using measurement-based approaches. During his doctorate, he was also a research associate with Enbala Power Networks Inc., Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Before his PhD studies, he has obtained a federal diploma as an electrical engineer from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland – Fribourg, Switzerland in 2008. He then worked in the solar industry for the inverter manufacturer Sputnik Engineering AG (Biel, Switzerland) as a Technical Support Engineer for several years.
His interests are in the modernization of today’s power grids, the deployment of renewable energy resources with focus on data-driven approaches, and generally in initiatives towards a more sustainable energy future.
