Research – Visual Analytics

Visual Analytics is the synergistic combination of two disciplines: data mining and information visualization. When analytical questions are ill-defined or datasets are large or heterogeneous, Visual Analytics helps human analysts gain insights and develop a deeper understanding of the data.

Research in Visual Analytics focuses on tailoring analytical and visualization algorithms to specific contexts and integrating them as effectively as possible. Visual Analytics supports the following key stages of successful data analysis:

• Hypothesis Generation: Domain experts can formulate data-driven hypotheses when exploring unfamiliar datasets or addressing poorly defined research questions.

• Identification of Data Patterns: Frequent or rare patterns in data are uncovered using semi-automated methods.

• Explanation of Data Patterns: The context of identified patterns is clarified, making them visually interpretable and easier to understand.
