Overview

The boundaries between the physical and digital worlds are increasingly blurred by technology. This opens up exciting opportunities for making building culture accessible, but they also require thoughtful and meaningful development. This requires innovative forms of cooperation between politics, administration, business, civil society and research, as well as improved (digital) mediation and participation tools.

The 'Digital Twin Canton of Zug' project, a collaboration between the Canton of Zug and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, is designed to advance the development and study of Digital Twins in a manner responsive to user needs. To this end, a special focus is being set on the collaborative and technical interface of digital twins with augmented reality (AR) and interactive data tables for integrated urban onsite and online services. With this extended method setting, new facilitation formats can be created that promote awareness and involvement in the work and data on the part of the Canton of Zug.

A trans- and interdisciplinary collaboration between the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the Canton of Zug, the Office for Land Registry and Geoinformation (AGG), the Office for Monument Preservation and Archaeology (ADA), the Office for the Environment (AFU), Hexagon Geosystems Switzerland and the CityScienceLab in Hamburg enables the practice-oriented research and development of these technologies. Within the "Digital Twin Canton Zug" project, one pilot project each is being carried out with the ADA (focus on communicating building culture) and the AFU (focus on communicating climate data).
