  • Languages in Switzerland: There are four official languages in Switzerland: German, French, Italian and Romansh. Lucerne is situated in the German-speaking part of the country, but in their day-to-day lives, most people speak one of the many dialects of the region that vary significantly between, e.g., Lucerne, Zug and Obwalden.
  • Switzerland's political system: Switzerland is a direct democracy, meaning its citizens are directly involved in the country’s political decision-making. The federalist political and legislative system is divided into three levels in Switzerland: the Confederation (federal government), cantons and communes.
  • Switzerland's education system: Switzerland has a so-called dual education system. After completing compulsory education, young people can either pursue higher education or do an apprenticeship. Both options offer a pathway to a university degree (learn more here).

  • Mobility in Switzerland: Switzerland has a well-developed road and rail network.
