Overview

If you choose a minor in Data Science, you will earn an additional 12 ECTS by attending modules from the MSc in Applied Information and Data Science. This interdisciplinary, English-taught programme is training applied data scientists and open to lateral entrants. This means you will attend modules alongside students from various other disciplines. The modules of the minor in Data Science are compiled in a way that allows you to develop all the required skills in your regular master's programme or in the minor in Data Science in a step-by-step process.

General information
The modules are taught in English and delivered on Thursdays or Fridays in each semester. You may attend them concurrently or consecutively to your master's programme.

After completing the master’s programme or—if taken consecutively—the Minor in Data Science, you will earn an additional diploma for your advanced skills in Data Science.

Some Facts about the Minor in Data Science

Admission criteria

Students who qualify for the minor in Data Science meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum grade of 5.0 in the degree program-specific statistics module (the corresponding module can be requested from the head of the degree programme); if the module is passed with a grade of < 5.0, an aptitude interview with the head of the minor will take place
  • Sufficient language skills in English (entry level according to the European Framework of Reference: C1)
  • Positive assessment by the head of the degree program
  • High level of commitment
  • Programming knowledge (R or Python) is an advantage, but not mandatory (preparation courses will be provided upon admission)

You can start the minor in Data Science in your third semester at the earliest. 

Admission deadline

Start in spring: December 1
Start in fall: June 1

Admission is granted by the head of the degree program. To start the admission process, please send an e-mail to the head of your degree program.
