Overview
The sacred cultural assets of Central Switzerland constitute a key component of Switzerland’s cultural heritage. Within the framework of this project, they are to be made more visible and more experientially accessible through innovative interpretative approaches. The focus lies on the development of new formats that can be deployed digitally, physically, or in hybrid form, enabling experiences along the entire customer journey, before, during, and after the visit.
The association Sakrallandschaft Innerschweiz develops these pilot projects in cooperation with nine project partners, each representing individual sacred sites, within collaborative working structures. In these pilot initiatives, all relevant stakeholders work together to design prototypical mediation and interpretation offerings, which can subsequently be transferred to other areas and locations within the network. The consortium is complemented by four destination management organisations (DMOs) from the Lucerne–Lake Lucerne experience region (DMOs Luzern-Vierwaldstättersee), which accompany the project as sparring partners during the development phase. In the subsequent stage, they play a key role in the tourism networking and marketing of the outcomes. A central objective is to strengthen interconnection among the sacred sites themselves and to integrate local stakeholders from gastronomy, accommodation, and related sectors, thereby fostering regional value creation. Visitors are encouraged not merely to visit individual sites, but to experience the sacred landscape as a coherent, interconnected experiential space.
The project is supported by the two departments, Economics and Design Film Arts of Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, as well as #letsmuseum and OSRI AG.
Implementation takes place in three phases: from foundational development, through the design and testing of pilot projects, to the dissemination and tourism-oriented marketing of the results. Finally, the insights gained are embedded and shared across the Sakrallandschaft Innerschweiz network. At the same time, exchange with national initiatives in the fields of church and tourism is maintained in order to leverage synergies and ensure coordinated development
