Transfer from university, ETH or university of applied sciences to the HSLU
Academic achievements from a degree program at a university, ETH or university of applied sciences can be credited. We recommend discussing this with the Head of Degree Program. In addition, one month of work experience is credited for each successfully completed semester of study. By law, a total of 12 months relevant professional experience are required. Proof must be provided in the form of an internship before the start of the second year of study. Alternatively, it is possible to register for a practical bachelor’s degree program (PiBS).
Admission with entrance examination: pre-admission course
Admission to the pre-admission course is open to persons aged 25 and over who do not have a vocational baccalaureate, but have completed a vocational apprenticeship of at least three years and have at least one year of work experience in an area of specialization of the selected degree program. More information on the
pre-admission course.
Admission with foreign diploma
It is possible to study at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture with a comparable academic diploma from a foreign or international school.
The swissuniversities website serves as a guide for admission:
· Foreign school leaving qualification
· International baccalaureate
Comparable diplomas to the vocational and specialized baccalaureate, particularly from Germany and Austria, are accepted. This means that admission without examination is possible for students with a high school leaving certificate (Abitur). In addition, at least one year of practical experience in the area of specialization of the chosen degree program or an internship contract with a company for the degree program in the PiBS model is required. Prospective students with a vocational baccalaureate (Fachhochschulreife) and completed, related vocational training are admitted to the degree program without further requirements.
Admission “sur dossier”
In general, individual approaches are possible in case of proven equivalent previous training and many years of employment-related experience related to the desired degree program that do not meet the formal admission requirements set out in the previous sections and the academic ordinance (appendix A1). For this “sur dossier” admission, the person must be at least 25 years old at the start of the degree program. The formal “sur dossier” request must be completed and approved by the Head of Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs.
Language requirements
German language proficiency at level C1 is a prerequisite for all German-language degree programs. You have either attended a German-language school for at least the last two years of your school education or have an official certificate before commencement of your studies.
The English-language degree program “
BSc in Energy and Environmental Systems Engineering” requires a certificate of English proficiency at level C1, or you have attended an English-language school for at least the last two years of your school education. German-speaking students who have completed their education in Switzerland at upper-secondary level can start at level B2 and must show proof of language proficiency at level C1 before starting the second year of study. This can be obtained with language courses at the University – free of charge and with recognition of credits for the degree program.
