Biografie

Luis Terán ist Informatiker und Forscher mit Schwerpunkt auf vertrauenswürdiger und erklärbarer künstlicher Intelligenz, Recommender-Systemen und Informationssystemen. Er besitzt eine Habilitation (2019) sowie einen Ph.D. in Informatik (2014) der Universität Freiburg (UniFR), wo er der Information Systems Research Group und dem Human-IST Institute angehörte. Zudem erwarb er einen M.Sc. in Communication Systems (2008) an der École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Seit 2009 ist er mit dem Departement für Informatik und dem Human-IST Institute der Universität Freiburg verbunden.

Derzeit bekleidet er eine unbefristete Stelle als Dozent und Senior Researcher an der Hochschule Luzern – Informatik (HSLU). Parallel dazu ist er als Lecturer, Senior Researcher und Privatdozent am Human-IST Institute der Universität Freiburg tätig und verbindet damit angewandte Forschungsleitung mit universitärer Lehre.

Luis Terán ist Gründer und Präsident der Society for Ethical, Inclusive, and Sustainable Computing (S-EISC), einer in der Schweiz ansässigen Non-Profit-Organisation, die sich der Förderung einer verantwortungsvollen Technologieentwicklung widmet. Darüber hinaus ist er Mitglied der Z-Inspection Initiative, einer internationalen Initiative zur Bewertung vertrauenswürdiger Systeme der künstlichen Intelligenz.

Seine Forschung konzentriert sich auf vertrauenswürdige, erklärbare und nachhaltige künstliche Intelligenz als Bestandteil moderner Informationssysteme, insbesondere in organisatorischen und managementbezogenen Kontexten. Er hat umfangreich in führenden Fachzeitschriften und Konferenzen publiziert und mehrere interdisziplinäre Forschungsinitiativen geleitet.

Er war Visiting Scholar an der Universität Bern sowie Academic Guest an der Universität Zürich. Zudem war er bis Oktober 2020 als ordentlicher Professor für künstliche Intelligenz an der Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas (ESPE) in Ecuador tätig.

Darüber hinaus hat er zur internationalen wissenschaftlichen Gemeinschaft beigetragen, indem er mehrere internationale Konferenzen organisiert und geleitet hat, darunter als Gründer der International Conference on eDemocracy and eGovernment (ICEDEG). Zudem engagiert er sich in der wissenschaftlichen Gemeinschaft als Gutachter, Associate Editor und Mitglied von Editorial Boards führender Fachzeitschriften. Er ist Senior Member des IEEE und Mitglied der IEEE Task Force on Explainable Fuzzy Systems und trägt damit zur Weiterentwicklung vertrauenswürdiger und verantwortungsvoller künstlicher Intelligenz bei.
