Energies, Space and Systems: A Situated Practice (in englischer Sprache; Themenschwerpunkt Artistic Research und Improvisation)
This talk uses improvisation as a spatially situated method for exploring and expanding spatiality through sound and performance. The performer produces the energies and vibrations that mediate between body, sounding object, and space, listening and adjusting in real time to how each affects the others. Instruments, speakers, and other projecting objects are approached as resonating, vibrational bodies that project sound energy: at once membranes and architectures that couple with the architecture of the room, the landscape beyond it, and the bodies moving through both.
Drawing on acoustic instrumental performance, directional sound projection, and installation works, the talk considers improvisation as an interdisciplinary knowledge-making methodology. It proposes embodied listening and responsive action as forms of situated knowledge, produced through engagement with sound, material, space, architecture, and the body.
Anthea Caddy is an artist whose work explores space as an active participant in energetic events, investigating relationships between energy, material resonance, and sonic vibration. She creates large-scale installations and performances in architectural and outdoor environments, using specialized loudspeakers and amplification systems to reveal the spatial phenomena embedded in the environments we inhabit. Her work considers sound as both a territorial marker and a force that can dissolve spatial boundaries. It has been presented at HKW Berlin, Museo Reina Sofía, Stedelijk Museum, Contemporary Art Museum Zagreb, Tesla Museum, the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the Venice Music Biennale.
