Overview
The electrification of construction sites using electric construction machinery and transport vehicles (E-BMTF) can make an important contribution to achieving Switzerland’s climate targets. International examples illustrate this: Since 2019, the City of Oslo has consistently focused on emission-free construction sites and achieved a reduction in construction-site emissions of over 90 percent by 2025. Similar developments can be seen in other cities in Scandinavia and the Netherlands.
The previous HSLU research project “Electrification of Urban Construction Sites” examined the feasibility of electric construction sites in Switzerland on three pilot sites in Zurich, Basel and Lucerne. Building on these findings, the current project is now investigating the conditions required for scaling up emission-free construction sites. The main focus is on energy supply, grid utilisation and stability under high load peaks, as well as charging infrastructure.
