Overview

Project Herzfroh 2.0 revises the sexuality education booklets "Herzfroh", which were published until 2011. The booklets are updated and digitized. In the course of the project, it was examined whether it would add value to the materials to supplement them with so-called serious games. Serious games are games that fulfill an additional function in addition to their nature as a game. With Herzfroh 2.0 the serious games address and convey learning content in an interactive way.
In close cooperation with subject matter experts, a narrative game was developed for the booklet “Friendship and Love”. Narrative games are games whose primary characteristic is telling a story. Players control how the story unfolds and ultimately ends by making choices between pre-defined options. Play tests with experts and the target audience (adolescents and young adults with intellectual disabilities) showed positive results. The feedback of each playtest was incorporated into the further development of the game.
As part of this project, the narrative game will be completed and released. In addition, guidelines will be developed to support game designers in designing narrative serious games for people with intellectual disabilities.
