It's the tone that makes the magic—discover how music is formed
The students in this bachelor’s programme have a burning desire to learn how music is made; they want to understand what keeps it together at its core. Moreover, they wish to pass on their skills and knowledge to pupils or students later and to expand their expertise around digital tools and media.
Students learn the music theory basics such as texture, ear training and analysis alongside scientific methods and how to publish new findings.
More than anything, it is the Lucerne School of Music’s technological and digital approach that makes it unique: the programme delivers the know-how required for the skilled handling of digital teaching and training methods.
Music theory goes digital!
The aim of this programme is to promote a holistic understanding of music.
To this end, the School of Music exploits the possibilities of the 21st century and offers a unique «Computational Skills» module. In collaboration with the School of Computer Science and Information Technology, it teaches the use of digital media, foundational programming skills and their applications for music theory content. This puts students at the top of their game.
The programme centres around the disciplines within music theory that are composition theory, analysis and ear training. Moreover, the programme offers an introduction to music theory research and, with it, a venue for the scientific exploration of profound questions. Students also learn to put the results in writing and to have them published.
With the skills acquired in the programme, students are perfectly prepared for a consecutive Master's in Music Theory, Composition or Music Research.
