The iHomeLab at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts - Technik & Architektur conducts research in the field of building automation and is active in the field of BACnet since 2011. The communication protocol BACnet (Building Automation and Control Networks) is an open protocol for building automation and is specified in the worldwide standard ISO 16484-5.
The BACnet test laboratory was officially recognized by BACnet International as a Recognized BACnet Test Organization in 2016 and is thus one of four globally recognized BACnet test laboratories. The iHomeLab was accredited in 2014 by the Swiss Accreditation Service SAS according to SN EN ISO/IEC 17025 as a test laboratory for testing the protocol-compliant behavior of open data communication systems for building automation.
The BACnet conformance tests are carried out according to the ISO 16484-6 standard in a modern equipped test laboratory using test software and automated test scripts. A protocol analyzer records all communication. If BACnet conformance errors occur, the problem is narrowed down manually. When a BACnet conformance error occurs, the customer is provided with a detailed problem resolution report.
A digitally signed test report is issued after successful completion of the compliance test. With this test report the customer can apply for the BTL listing and certificate from BACnet International.
In the context of quality assurance, the customer is informed about further observations outside of the conformity tests, which serve to improve the product.
