The first day at HSLU Viscosistadt Campus offers lectures, workshops, and student projects exploring Alpine river landscapes and their role in infrastructure, energy, and tourism. Highlights include keynotes by Marcel Hänggi and Oliver Kerrison and a writing workshop with Andrea Keller. On the second day, participants visit Uri, including a site visit to the planned but never realized Urseren power plant and a tour of the Göschenen power plant.
The language of the Symposium is English.

On Friday, building on the ideas from the previous day, we will gain a real sense of what it means to design river landscapes. To this end, we will examine the power of water in concrete terms – first at the site where a massive hydroelectric power station (the Urseren power station) was planned but never built. As a result, the "Schöllenen", which we will visit, has been preserved as an impressive testament to untamed hydropower. We will then go on to explore the visible and invisible realities of the technical use of hydropower during a visit to the Göschenen power station. Finally, we will bring everything together and discuss what it means to design landscapes in a meaningful way, balancing the interests of use, aesthetics and, not least, the needs of non-human entities.
