How many resources does a single AI query consume? What impact does social media use have on our democracy, and what do the numbers that politicians won't reveal tell us? How does the shortage of affordable housing affect mental health? What happens at Europe's borders when you visualise the data behind the headlines?
In Data Design + Art, you explore questions like these in depth. You will research, analyse and design, translating your findings into visual formats that make an impact, such as interactive infographics for newsrooms, immersive data installations for museums or dashboards for science that illustrate Switzerland's CO₂ emissions.
Throughout the course, you will learn to work with information design, data art, data visualisation, media design, storytelling, statistics and coding — not as separate subjects, but through projects and in collaboration with experts. You will work with real data from research institutions and develop projects that will be exhibited in public, published and debated.
Who is Data Design + Art for?
People who want to know things. Those who ask "Why?" when others scroll past. People who don't just design interfaces, but who also want to understand what lies beneath them. Whether you come from a background in design or technology, or somewhere else entirely, if you're more interested in connections than surfaces, you're in the right place.
