Bachelor in Creative Transformation Think sustainably – create livable environments – act together

To make the future worth living, we need more than ambitious concepts and urgent appeals. Above all, we need competent change makers who can work together to shape society, the economy, and technology in a sustainable way.

The BA in Creative Transformation is aimed at anyone who wants to contribute to meaningful change in the way we live and do business, with a concrete project idea, positive energy, and openness to new ways of thinking and approaching problems. The program teaches the necessary transformative literacy to contextualize and reflectively develop one's own project. At the same time, it also provides the necessary “transformative agency” to initiate and advance concrete and effective transformations through your own project – in companies, NGOs, public administration, education, or within the framework of independent ventures. Depending on the interests and concerns of the students, the focus can be directed toward different fields of action. Effective climate protection, sustainable digitalization, realistic circular economy, realistic economy for the common good, co-creative neighborhood development – the possible topics, areas of focus, and practical contexts are as diverse as the personalities that come together and interact in the BA Creative Transformation program. What connects them all is a shared desire to work together to shape a sustainable and livable future.

In addition to specialist knowledge, sustainable transformation requires above all a willingness to experiment, creative ability, and design skills. That is why the Department of Design, Film, and Art at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is the home base of the BA Creative Transformation program. Creative skills are taught and tested here based on the thinking and methods of the arts and design.

The technical expertise required for the students' projects can be acquired through individually tailored mentoring and teaching programs at other departments of the HSLU and, if necessary, from external experts. The program offers a high degree of interdisciplinary flexibility and promotes access to the fields of architecture and technology, economics, computer science, social work, health, and music, depending on the interests and needs of the students.

The focus is on working on one's own project. This takes place where the concrete need for transformation is anchored in reality and the challenges addressed in the project are “at home.” This could be, for example, the professional context from which the students come and in which they can remain partially involved during their studies. Here, too, the students' concerns and the requirements for productive work on their projects guide the individual curriculum design.

The program is aimed at anyone who wants to become a professional driving force behind future-oriented transformation: individuals who are committed to achieving genuine sustainable development beyond mere repetition of buzzwords. Those who see collaboration with others as an essential condition for creating a world worth living in for everyone – including the non-human environment. And who know that this requires ethical and aesthetic awareness.

The BA Creative Transformation is particularly suitable for students with a technical or vocational baccalaureate who, after gaining initial experience in a job or through civic engagement, now want to further their education at university without having to give up their previous professional or other activities. 

Graduates of the BA Creative Transformation actively shape the reality of life in the future. They initiate and drive sustainable change processes in their professional environments and beyond – with commitment and a reflective value compass, professional competence, collaboration with others, and a strong creative awareness. They are not discouraged by complex challenges and know how to develop well-thought-out concepts and implement them in effective measures with concrete impact.
