We understand transformation as a complex process of change that cannot be steered in a linear fashion, but can be competently shaped when valid knowledge, well-considered objectives and realistic courses of action are combined with creative expertise from design and the arts.
In our view, it is essential for a transformative university to focus specifically, in both research and teaching, on the production and dissemination of application-oriented transformative knowledge, and to be actively involved in its practical implementation. Accordingly, the BA Creative Transformation programme provides ‘hands-on’ training in the relevant contextualisation and reflection skills, orientation skills and design skills.
By its very nature, the BA Creative Transformation is a project laboratory in which this understanding of transformative teaching and research is put into practice. In other words: it is a curated platform open to society, where individuals with their commitment, knowledge and skills gather to address specific problems and work on them together – challenged and inspired by reality, underpinned by practical skills for effecting change, and shaped by the university’s environment as a hub of academic and creative expertise.
