Biography
Philipp Bachmann has been at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) since 2020, as Professor of Communication Science specialising in Strategic Communication since 2024 and as Head of the Competence Center Business Communication since 2025. His research examines how digital technologies – from search engines and social media to generative AI – are changing the competition for attention, and what this means for the strategic communication of organisations. Most recently, he has studied the use of generative AI in marketing and communication professions. Previously, he was a senior research assistant in media economics and media management at the University of Zurich and co-author of the Swiss Media Quality Rating (2016 to 2024). He earned his doctorate summa cum laude from the University of Fribourg with a thesis on media companies and their strategic approach to responsibility; he studied in Göttingen, Stockholm, and Leipzig, and completed the CAS Blockchain at HSLU – Information Technology. His work has received several awards, including the SACM Dissertation Award (2016), the EUPRERA Best Paper Award (2025), and, three years in a row, the HSLU Prize for Innovative and High-Quality Teaching (2024, 2025, 2026).
