X4VHS - Energy in Planet Future

Developing an immersive experience for the Verkehrshaus Planetarium

Overview

Goal of X4VHS is to develop a novel immersive experience that conveys knowledge on renewable energy and raises awareness about the energy transition. We propose this project as new technological solutions for renewable energies are unfortunately not gaining understanding or social acceptance, despite the Energy Strategy 2050 putting emphasis on them. These difficulties form the starting point of our project, in which we ask ourselves the question: How can we create an immersive experience that not only informs about new renewable technologies, but also illustrates their benefits and is entertaining at the same time?

Instead of relying on common, classic formats, we are exploring innovative methods with a fresh and creative approach. We develop a novel immersive experience for one or multiple communication channels. Using planetaria (and their distribution system) is one such possibility. We intend to produce the film for the «Verkehrshaus der Schweiz» (VHS) in Lucerne, with plans to expand to other planetaria. The future energy system will be visualized with 2D animation and CGI (Computer Generated Images) especially designed for a planetarium or for VR Head Mounted Displays. Setting up complementary exhibitions and events, such as interactive workshops, is another option. In other words, our aim is to develop a compelling story and adapt it to different media and channels of communication.

This strategy will enable us to reach laymen, laywomen and children, achieving visibility both nationally and internationally. By presenting complex concepts in an understandable and engaging way to a wide audience, we would like to illustrate the importance of transitioning to renewable energy solutions and their impact on our daily lives.

In this project, characterized by interdisciplinarity and a collaborative spirit within HSLU, CC TES is working with experts in animation & spatial design from DFK. Our clear, shared goal is to promote social support for the Energy Strategy 2050. The IDN funding enables the development of a concept with the aim of applying for further financial support by SNF Agora funding in September 2025.
