Overview

The main motivation of our project is to fill gaps in entertainment and video communications that we have identified. Video has become the primary medium for communications, be it on platforms like YouTube or Instagram, or for remote communication. On the other hand, audiences today demand tailored, engaging and highly innovative entertainment, able to reach them across new delivery platforms, always available at their will. And with new content to be produced, the creative industries need new technologies able to deliver it. Nimagna is a Swiss start-up company working on a AI-powered video production solution in the B2B market. By using just a standard, off-the-shelf webcam, Nimagna delivers immersive, TV-like video content primarily for online training and webinars. Nimagna has recently been granted the initial Innosuisse start-up coaching.
disguise, the UK partner in this project, has addressed live entertainment since 2000. Over the past four years, disguise ability to innovate has positioned the company at the forefront of Virtual Production and Extended Reality in Film, Episodic, Broadcast and immersive experiences, with productions for Netflix and Amazon Prime, Eurosport, MTV and ITV, in more than 50 countries to date.
Our project's goal is to develop a common technology involving improvements to volumetric scanning, and apply it to both disguise’s and also to Nimagna’s markets. The improvements will be led by the University of Lucerne, the academic partner in the project, and will involve enabling massive speedups in the volumetric reconstruction to make it economically practical, through the exploration of the latest in volumetric reconstruction research, such as NeRF (Neural Radiance Fields) technology
This innovation will allow for any environment and performance to be captured live and later be used for video communications by Nimagna or delivered as rich and immersive content by disguise.
