Overview

This project is in collaboration with essendi it AG, who’s main product is a certificate management tool allowing IT network components to communicate securely. The cryptography used in this application is threatened by quantum computers and will eventually have to be replaced by new algorithms which remain secure in the presence of quantum computers. These new algorithms, called post-quantum cryptography, have different properties from the current ones, such as key size or needed computing time. This can impact the processes involved in setting up and running secure networks, in particular the certificate management tool of essendi.

The present project studies the influence of post-quantum cryptography on certificate management from a technical, business and process point of view. It analyzes which adaptations will be needed for essendi’s product and how essendi can best support its customers in this transition.
