Overview

SpaceTimeLayers is a sub-project of the SNSF-funded project “Mensch und Haus - Wohnen, Bauen und Wirtschaften in der ländlichen Schweiz” at the University of Basel.

The sub-project investigates innovative hybrid mediation and dialog strategies at the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum. Using the house from Adelboden as an example, mixed reality technologies are used to make historical transformation processes tangible and to reflect interactively on current social challenges.

The house from Adelboden serves as a physical anchor point where various hybrid mediation and dialog formats are tested. In addition to immersive experiences, the potential of dialogical elements will be explored, enabling visitors to contribute their own perspectives and actively participate in the debate about the past, present and future. Research is being conducted into how digital and analog mediation strategies must be designed in order to integrate interactive dialog formats in a meaningful way.

In this project, Ballenberg acts as a real laboratory for hybrid knowledge transfer. The aim is to combine digital and analog elements in such a way that a reflective examination of historical developments is made possible. The hybrid mediation and dialog formats developed will be designed in such a way that they can be transferred to other buildings and thematic focuses within the open-air museum.
