Sexual Harassment Awareness Day 2025

Sexual harassment and sexism are social problems that also occur at Swiss universities and research institutions. To draw attention to this fact, swissuniversities is launching the third nationwide Sexual Harassment Awareness Day on April 29, 2025. The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is taking part in the day of action on this important topic together with other institutions.

Sexual Harassment Awareness Day 2025

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts ensures that all its members can study and work in a safe and respectful environment. It therefore uses Sexual Harassment Awareness Day to prevent sexual harassment and sexist discrimination. Because preventing sexual harassment requires knowledge and visibility.

Webinar: “Knowing and Communicating Personal Boundaries”

On April 29, 2025 from 18:15 pm to 19:15 pm there will be a webinar on the topic “Knowing and communicating personal boundaries”. Being aware of your personal boundaries does not automatically mean having the confidence to express them clearly and unambiguously.

Based on constructivism and communication theory, we will discuss why it can be difficult to put your own boundaries into words. We will learn about suitable techniques and how we can find our own style. The webinar will be led by two diversity officers. Participants are welcome to actively take part and ask their questions.

Speakers: Nicole Sandmeier (HSLU – Music), Dr. Sabine Witt (HSLU – Business)

The event will be held in German and is open to students and staff.

Reading Talk with Agota Lavoyer: “Jede_Frau”

Author Agota Lavoyer will give a reading talk based on her book "Jede_Frau" ("Every_Woman"). In it, she describes a society that trivializes and normalizes sexualized violence. Almost every woman, as well as many trans and non-binary people, experience it in some form: harassment, inappropriate advances, catcalling, coercion, or even rape.

This is made possible by our rape culture, which allows men to act inappropriately without consequence. As a well-known expert on sexualized violence and bestselling author, Agota Lavoyer analyzes the social structures that uphold rape culture. With sharp insight and clarity, she deconstructs how society views victims and perpetrators of sexualized violence.

Drawing on examples from research, pop culture, criminal justice, and media, Lavoyer shows that sexualized violence is not a mistake or a misunderstanding, but part of a toxic system of patriarchal masculinity that still shapes our society. Her book is both disturbing and compelling – and ultimately encourages readers to take responsibility and work toward a culture free of sexual violence.

The event will be held in German and is open to both students and staff.
