The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is funded by the six central Swiss cantons, Lucerne, Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden and Zug. It comprises of the Lucerne Schools of Engineering and Architecture, Business, Computer Science and Information Technology, Social Work, Art and Design and Music.
The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts fulfils its mandate in the four areas of education, continuing and executive education, applied research and development, and services. The bachelor's and master's degree programmes follow the requirements of business, culture and civil society and prepare students for the needs of the job market. Ambitious professionals can choose from a wide range of continuing and executive education courses.
Because of its research activities and specialised services, the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is an important and reliable partner for enterprises in the private sector, federations/associations and public authorities. It maintains an extensive national and international network.
The University's mission, vision and framework of values describe its essential purpose as an educational institution, the values and principles that govern its conduct, and the objectives it pursues.
The “Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts Foundation” was founded at the end of 2016. The purpose of the university is to fund the university ideally and financially and to support strategic projects that cannot be implemented within the conventional budget.
Sustainability
The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is aware of its responsibility as an educational and research institution. It is committed to developing in an economically, socially and ecologically sustainable fashion. The principles of sustainable development are part of the Lucerne UASA’s overall strategy. The related goals and measures are defined along seven topic areas: institutional anchoring, teaching, research, work environment, student activism, communication and university operations. For the latter and strongly taking into account the goals of the “2000 Watt society”, a resource, environment and mobility concept with ecologically relevant goals and measures for the near future has been developed. The sustainability efforts of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts were ratified in the 2019 report on the first institutional accreditation. With the creation of the Specialist Unit for Sustainability, another step has been taken towards the institutional anchoring of the topic.
Quality Management
The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is continuously improving the quality of its services. The activities and services in all areas (education, continuing and executive education, research and development, services for third parties as well as management and support processes) are periodically evaluated by students, course participants, lecturers and by the university's partners in industry, science and society as well as by external subject specialists.
