Biography
Francisco Sierra (*1977, Santiago de Chile) lives and works in Switzerland, where he moved with his family in 1986. From an early age, he developed a strong interest in both music and painting. After completing his studies in violin, he decided to devote himself entirely to the visual arts.
In his work, Sierra develops a distinctive visual language situated between photorealistic precision, surreal imagery, and conceptual tension. Using techniques reminiscent of the Old Masters, he stages everyday objects, unexpected combinations, and deliberate shifts in scale, transforming the familiar into new, enigmatic pictorial worlds. Humor and a sense of disorientation play a central role in this process.
Sierra served as an Artistic Associate at ETH Zürich from 2018 to 2023. His works have been exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and are included in numerous institutional collections. He has received several awards for his artistic practice, including the Kiefer Hablitzel Göhner Prize, the Swiss Art Award, the Manor Art Prize, and most recently the People’s Pick at Art Basel Unlimited.
