Biography
Luca Mangani graduated in Mechanical Engineering at University of Florence. He also completed his PhD in Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and Energy Engineering and Novel Technologies at the Energy Engineering Department of the University of Florence with the thesis “Development and Validation Of A Object Oriented CFD Code For Heat Transfer Analysis and Turbulent Combustion in Turbomachinery Applications” that was awarded with “encomio”. During his studies, he developed the state of the art compressible pressure based solvers adopted by important industrial companies in the field of turbomachinery. He extended his research during a two years Post-doctoral position at the University of Florence in CFD development extending his research to combustion dynamics, turbulent combustion and heat transfer in aero-engine applications.
Actually Dr. Luca Mangani is Full Professor at the Competence Center of Fluid Mechanics and Hydro Machines at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts at the School of Engineering and Architecture.
Dr. Mangani is also the head of the Computational Fluid dynamics Group at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology. He acquires, directs and leads various R&D projects at the Competence Center Fluid Mechanics and Hydro-machines, aimed to the development of advanced numerical tools for industrial applications.
Dr. Luca Mangani is pioneer and world-wide expert in implicit pressure based coupled solvers. In the last years he developed the state of the art of All-Mach pressure based solvers, adopted by many important companies and leading the research in this area. Recent novel developments include, Novel Mixing planes algorithms (ASME Turbo expo best paper award), discrete adjoint solvers, implicit second turbulence model closure.
Dr. Luca Mangani is also co-author of the Springer book “The Finite Volume Method in Computational Fluid Dynamics”. Since its online publication there have been more than of 2 millions chapters downloads. Springer delighted that book was among the top 25% most downloaded eBooks in its respective Springer eBook Collection in 2019.
