With 690 students attending its degree programmes and a further 1,200 or so following continuing education courses, the Lucerne School of Social Work is one of the largest educational establishments of its kind in Switzerland. Its teaching, research and development as well as its service projects are instrumental in promoting the development of the welfare sector and the professionalisation of social work.
Personal profile
The Lucerne School of Social Work does more than impart knowledge it also fosters interdisciplinary thought and action and forges collaborations with other university-level institutions – working in networks is a priority. The School's mission statement provides the reference for its plans and activities. Key themes include quality management and equality of opportunities. interact Verlag, the School's specialist publisher, prints articles on the theory and practice of social work. The School is located in two buildings on the banks of Lake Lucerne in close proximity to Lucerne railway station. The Lucerne School of Social Work was formed from a merger of three higher technical schools in 1995 and is now a School of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts is sponsored by the six Central Swiss cantons: Lucerne, Nidwalden, Obwalden, Schwyz, Uri and Zug.
