Music and Art Performance Workshops Academy for contemporary Music

This workshop series is open to all course participants with a particular interest in developing and realising their own artistic projects. The workshops are led by four prominent figures from the performing arts.

As the workshops and instrumental lessons take place at the same time in the morning, full participation in both is not possible. If you are interested in individual workshops, please contact the academy director. It is, however, possible to register for and attend all afternoon and evening offerings (chamber music, special courses, afternoon workshops, concerts).

Course times: Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 13:00
Language:
All workshops are conducted in English

  • Monday, 9 February 2026:
Céline Hänni, When breath becomes vibration

Animal voice, cry-voice, instrument-voice, gesture-voice, sign-voice... when breath becomes vibration. Carrying both individual and collective stories, the voice conveys a multitude of sound worlds: we are polyphonic.
Through improvisations involving the body and the senses, we will collectively explore sound, space, and listening. An exploratory laboratory for experimenting and inventing imaginary territories around the voice.
  • Tuesday, 10 February 2026:
    Louis Jucker, using Noise

This is a workshop on noise music using contact microphones. Louis will bring various suitcases of his own design, packed with microphones and effects, to connect to the participants' instruments. Together, the group will explore the lo-fi sound of the instruments, opening our ears – and new doors – to sound research.
  • Wednesday, 11 February 2026:
Viola Yip, Inflatable sounds: electronics between air, material and space

In this workshop, we will explore air as a medium bridging the digital and the analog. From designing and building small inflatable feedback systems, we use inflatables as a thinking tool to revisit the idea of performative cybernetic systems. We aim to further explore what a performative (or even flexible) machine could be, investigating the intricate and subtle relationship between air, body, material and space through electronics.
  • Thursday, 12 February 2026:
Daniel Zea, Face tracking & hybrid performances: Regarding the appropriation of surveillance and gestural capture algorithms in the arts

In this workshop, Daniel Zea will present several examples of this hijack, through his hybrid performances that combine movement, video and text generation as well as real-time electronic sounds. He will discuss the aesthetic and practical implications of implementing these set-ups in performing arts, especially focusing on interaction with musicians. The use of Laban notation and its application for musical purposes will also be approached.
  • Friday, 13 February 2026:
