Summer School on Designing Serious Games 2024 

The goals of serious games go beyond pure entertainment. They are about learning, education or awareness raising. This intensive course explores different game genres and their typical game mechanics and investigates their suitability for different serious use cases. After short theoretical inputs, you will form teams to develop paper prototypes for specific scenarios.

This will enhance your game design skills and allow you to gain new insights into different game mechanics by building and testing game prototypes with simple materials without being distracted by technology.

The program is designed for undergraduate students from the fields of Game Design, Game Development, Digital Ideation, Computer Science, Business Information Technology and similar fields of study.

Guests: various experts from industry and research partners

Experience in the field of game design (e.g. a module at university level). Students who have no previous experience will be given a preparatory assignment. The language of instruction is English. Students whose native language is not English should have at least a B2+ level (e.g. IELTS 6.5).

• Language of instruction: English
• Study places: A maximum of 20 students can be accepted for the Summer School.

• After the Summer School, the students further develop a prototype and write a documentation for it. The documentation is corrected and graded. All participating students receive a certificate of participation at the end with the grade achieved. One hundred percent attendance during these two weeks is required for successful completion of the Summer School.
• ECTS Credits: 3 (Students from partner universities should clarify in advance whether the 3 ECTS points will be credited to them at their home university.).
  
   

There are no course fees for students of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and for students from partner universities. Students from non-partner universities pay a course fee of CHF 500. International students pay for their own travel, accommodation and meals.
