Spend a semester abroad Broaden your horizons

Students should choose courses at the exchange university that are as similar as possible to those being taken at the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology. Students should discuss their choice of course with the Head of Degree Program at the appropriate time. 
Exchanges are possible in the following semesters:

BSc in Information Technology
Full-time: 5th semester
Part-time: 7th semester
(Exceptions, such as the last semester, must be approved by the Head of Degree Program)

BSc in Immersive Technologies
Full-time: 5th semester
Part-time: 7th semester

BSc in Information and Cyber Security
Full-time: 3rd & 4th semester
Part-time: 4th - 7th semester

1. a 1:1 module exchange with universities that also offer AI/ML and Data Science degrees, or
2. elective modules while abroad, which may extend overall studies by one semester.

Students currently enrolled at the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology will find the registration link and further information regarding the application process on the ILIAS platform. The entire administration of the Semesters Abroad is handled via the Mobility Online Tool. 

Students are advised to find out as much as they can in advance about all aspects of their semester abroad, including the application process, study contract, funding and accommodation, entry formalities (e.g. visas, permits) and insurance. Information events are held twice a year: Dates are posted well in advance to students. Students can also contact the International Office directly if they have any queries.

The deadline for a semester abroad in the Fall is January 15th. The deadline for a semester abroad in the Spring is August 15th.

Exception for applicants that wish to go to Glasgow, application deadline 15th January for the following fall and spring semester (application only possible 1x a year).

Tuition fees
Typically, students of the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology spending a semester abroad at a partner university pay their tuition fees to the School. There are exceptions, which mainly occur outside of Europe. The International Office has details of the specific partner institutions. As a rule, students who are required to pay fees to the partner institution are generally excused their tuition fees to the Lucerne School of Information Technology.

Tuition fees for “free-mover” students
“Free-mover” students applying to a university of their choice are required to pay the tuition fees of that institution. They are typically excused from paying the tuition fees for the relevant semester to the Lucerne School of Information Technology. 

Grants
Students completing a semester abroad at a partner university in Europe may apply for a grant under the Swiss European Mobility Program (SEMP; replaces Erasmus). Additional or alternative funding is also possible. Further information on grants

Living costs
Depending on the country and the student’s lifestyle, the cost of staying abroad for a semester can be substantial. Many of the partner institutions’ websites contain information on the cost of living.
