General Questions

hidden

How many students are there in a class?

more

Normally, there are between 35 and 42 students in a class.

hidden

Is there a cap to the number of study places?

more

If the number of applicants is high, the number of places available may be limited. However, if you meet the admission criteria and apply within the deadline, we will most likely be able to offer you a place on the program.

hidden

Will there be online classes or is the program in-person only?

more

At the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology, classes – which are also streamed live – are generally held on the Zug-Rotkreuz Campus. In the International IT Management program, we greatly value our students’ presence on campus, as face-to-face interaction and collaboration in international teams are essential components of the program and promote intercultural learning.

hidden

Can I pause my studies for a year?

more

Yes, at our School you are entitled to a leave of absence of two semesters maximum, taken over an extended period. However, your leave of absence and studies combined must not exceed the standard period of study of seven years.

hidden

Can I change my chosen study track before the program starts?

more

Yes, you may change from full-time to part-time and vice versa until the start of the program. Students from non-EU/EFTA states can only study full-time.

hidden

Why should I study International IT Management?

more

In the BSc in International IT Management, which is unique in Switzerland, you will learn to successfully combine technology and management and realize interdisciplinary IT projects in an international and intercultural context. Two semesters abroad – one in “the West” and one in Asia – are a key part of the program.

hidden

What makes this program special?

more

The BSc in International IT Management is fully taught in English and has a consistent international focus. You will not only experience interculturality during your two semesters abroad, but also here, by interacting with your many international fellow students every day. Also, you can freely choose about a third of the modules to suit your interests and professional orientation, be it in the field of technology or management.

hidden

Do I need programming experience?

more
No. Programming skills are not required. You will learn the basics (including Java and object-oriented programming) in modules such as “Programming Fundamentals”.

hidden

Will there be a lot of math?

more

There will be a moderate and practice-oriented amount of math, e.g., in “Mathematics for Computer Science” and “Statistics for Computer Science”.

hidden

What is the structure of the program?

more

The program comprises 180 ECTS credits and lasts 6 semesters (full-time) or 8 semesters (part-time). Some two-thirds are compulsory modules in four areas: General Skills and Intercultural Competences, International Management, IT Projects, and Information Technology and Computer Science. About a third of modules are freely elective. In the third (part-time: fifth) semester, you will study abroad in “the West”, in the sixth (part-time: eighth) semester in Asia, where you will also complete your bachelor's thesis.

Admission Requirements

hidden

What kind of degree do I need to be admitted to the program?

more

You can find all the relevant information about our admission requirements on this website. Please note the English language requirements for prospective students from abroad.

hidden

I have previously studied at university level. Will ECTS credits from modules I have already taken be recognized?

more

Yes. If equivalent in content, you may apply to have prior learning from other university-level institutions in Switzerland and abroad recognized. Simply submit the relevant module descriptions and assessed assignments.

hidden

What exactly do you mean by “university admission qualifying certificate”?

more

The university admission qualifying certificate is your school-leaving certificate that entitles you to study at university level. They include diplomas such as the vocational or academic baccalaureate. You can find all the relevant information about our admission requirements on this website.

hidden

Why is there a different application deadline for non-EU/EFTA students (28 February)?

more

Almost all non-EU/EFTA citizens need a visa to study in Switzerland. You are not allowed to study in Switzerland on a tourist visa.

You can get information about visa requirements and how to apply for a visa from the Swiss embassy or consulate in your country of residence. Please note that the application process is at least eight to twelve weeks. If you need to supply additional documentation, it may be longer still. For your visa application to have a realistic chance of succeeding, you will need an admission confirmation from us. This means we will also have to review your application first. That is why the application deadline for students from non-EU/EFTA countries is set at an earlier date.

hidden

I need a visa to study. What is there to consider?

more

You can find all relevant information on this website. Please read them carefully before applying and make sure to review the checklist for visa applications. One requirement is that you must provide proof of financial resources (minimum amount required: CHF 21,000) held at a bank or securities firm authorized by FINMA.

hidden

Why do international students have to pay higher semester fees?

more

In the 2025 fall semester, the study fees for international students were raised by CHF 500 per semester. The HSLU took this step to adapt to developments in Swiss higher education.

hidden

hidden
