Given some 40% of the program is elective, there are typically between 15 to 40 students in a class. In the spring, we tend to start the program with around 25 students and with 60 in the fall. That means there can be up to 60 students in a core module.

No, the number of study places is not limited. If you fulfill the admission criteria and enroll before the registration deadline, you are entitled to a place on the program.

In the BSc in Computer Science, you will not just learn the foundations of the discipline, you will be able to pick and mix almost half of your modules from an extensive module catalog. We expect that you are familiar with the principles of IT as well as computer hardware and software. However, our modules start with the technical foundations and build your knowledge from there – step by step. We offer a short preparatory course for students without prior learning these fields.

Math is an important part of computer science: it helps you to analyze problems systematically and to develop good solutions. Having said that, math plays a minor role in the compulsory modules. Math only accounts for about 10 % of the compulsory classes.

At the beginning, in the first full-time year, you will complete the assessment level. It is dedicated to building a solid foundation in computer science and the relevant specialist skills and knowledge. From the start, you will concurrently attend practice-focused project modules where you directly apply what you have learned.

In the second half of the program, you will be able to freely select most of your classes. You can pick advanced modules in the core area of computer science, enroll for lectures from other programs offered at our School, and even attend modules at one or several of the HSLU’s other Schools. This means you can build an increasingly bespoke curriculum that suits your interests and professional ambitions.

Yes, that's possible. It is possible for prior learning to be recognized as part of the degree. Once you are registered, the head of program will assess the scope of the previously completed coursework.

The university admission qualifying certificate is your school-leaving certificate that entitles you to study at a university-level institution. You need German language skills at C1 level. Your English language skills should be at B2.

Yes. Students have the option to attend a semester at one of the HSLU’s partner universities abroad. This allows them to gain international experience and to grow their personal network. Find a list of our partner universities here.

You also have the option of earning two bachelor’s degrees via a dual degree program.
