Stefan Mennel (*1977) finished his scientific Matura (i.e. A-level) in Heerbrugg/SG in 1997. He studied history, maths, and philosophy at the University of Basel till 2000. Subsequently, he left Europe for his overseas experience mainly spent in New Zealand. Back home in 2001 he started his HVAC-studies and passed Cambridge Advanced in 2004 and his final exams as dipl. Ing. HLK/FH (i.e. HVAC engineering) in 2005. In 2007 his second degree as dipl. HS-Ing./FH (i.e. Heating/Sanitary engineering) directly followed. Stefan Mennel was working from 2006 until 2010 as an R&D Engineer both at the ZIG (Zentrum für Integrale Gebäudetechnik) and CCTP (Competence Centre Typologie und Planung in Architektur) and assisted the Dean of Building Services Engineering at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture.
From 2010 until 2014 he was working as project manager at Todt Gmür + Partner AG in Schlieren (designing and realising complex HVAC-systems). Afterwards he was working as business unit manager for «consulting» at aardeplan AG in Baar and was a member of the executive board.
Since August 2016 Stefan Mennel is a lecturer for heating and cooling systems at the department of Building Services Engineering. At the same time he pursues his research work at the ZIG, primarily examining (low) temperature networks and different strategies for operation and planning both for district heating and energy hubs. In September 2018 he became senior researcher for "simulation and analysis of buildings and districts".
