Business Engineering students visit the aerospace industry
At the end of October, 18 undergraduate and graduate business engineering students took a closer look into the aerospace industry. At RUAG Space in Zurich- Opfikon, the students got insight into the development of the company and the special features of the space industry with examples of current projects. Followed by a tour of the production facilities, it became clear how high quality requirements in space travel really are. Afterwards, the students were able to take a look behind the scenes of Zurich Airport. Here, the focus was on processes including security controls, baggage logistics and ground handling of the aircraft. After visiting a Singapore Airline Airbus A380, participants took a bus transfer to SR Technic’s dockyard. Outside the hall gates, students were shown a Breitling Super Constellation L-1049, one of only two airworthy specimens of the aircraft type from the 1950s in the world. After visiting the modern noise control hall, which are used for engine and technical overhauls, the maintenance halls were inspected where maintenance and repair work of various types of aircraft is undertaken. The visit of the engine shop, where aircraft engines are overhauled, was another highlight of the overall interesting excursion.
