Career Development Employee development and management

Professional careers are the product of a complex interplay of personal effort and learning performance, decisions made based on one’s life and organisational environment, as well as the structural inequality of opportunity within professions, organisations and markets.  In light of today’s working world, which is defined by a plurality of values, rapid transformation of knowledge, flexibilisation and growing insecurity, well-trodden career paths are increasingly being replaced by flexible careers that are actively shaped by the workers themselves.

Career management can no longer exist along static career paths and hierarchies, it must welcome the diversity of today’s development and career goals and proactively support employees in the unlocking of their potential.  Of course, this is not limited to management trainees, but also extends to highly qualified specialists. Demanding specialist, project and leadership tasks for active mothers and fathers who work part time, the promotion of life-long learning and the facilitation of flexible careers irrespective of a person’s age are some of the facets of leading-edge career development.
