Overview

Sarnetz is an existing digital serious game based on the board game from “Zernez ENERGIA 2020” that supports the planning process for finding a realizable and cost-efficient solution to achieve CO2 neutrality of the actual village. Currently, the game suffers from stability issues – it often disconnects players during sessions because of network timeouts, causing the loss of all game progress - which makes it unsuitable for educational use. To advance the long-term objective of adapting Sarnetz into a “Serious Game” for Swiss Schools on Sek II level (BM and Gymnasien), to raise awareness about global warming and sustainability, it is imperative to first ensure the stability and functionality of the existing system before implementing further pedagogical or interactive enhancements. With the IDN funding, we will review and refine the current ITC-developed version to guarantee smooth operation. Once stabilised, the game will be tested with EESE (T&A) and Immersive technologies (I) students, initiating the ideation phase and developing a concept for a classroom-ready serious game.
