Overview

As part of the project "Enabling Youth Participation in the Local Community", key elements, challenges and success factors of the promotion of youth participation were explored in an explorative study. Recognising that the quality of participation projects and events initiated or facilitated by professionals does not only depend on the young people, the project focused on the needs, attitudes, working methods and working conditions of the people who promote youth participation in local communities. These people, referred to as "enablers" in the study, such as professionals in open child and youth work or municipal politicians, had received little attention in research and practice literature until then. By addressing this research gap, it was possible to complement previous findings on the promotion of youth participation and thus contribute to the long-term promotion of youth participation at the community level. For the practical transfer of the research results, a brochure with central study results was compiled for (future) enablers. In addition, a conference on youth participation promotion was held in autumn 2021.
