Learning in Tandem does not depend on participation in a language course. Tandem takes place in a variety of ways using participants' own documents, reference books or simply by means of conversation reflecting real life. The two Tandem partners are chosen on the basis that their mother tongue is the language which the other partner wishes to learn. Both offer skills that they already possess and that their counterpart wishes to acquire.
Tandem partners agree the parameters regarding timing and content, such as learning aims, learning strategies, contents, time frame and frequency of meetings. The latter should take place at least once a week. Equal amounts of time should be spent on both languages.
Tandem is suitable for students and teaching/support staff. No charge is made for organising Tandem partnerships.
