News and background information on the Institute for Jazz.
Play your own thing: jazz is an attitude and a philosophy. At the Institute of Jazz the nurturing of individuality and the development of a personal musical language are of highest priority.
Developing a personal musical language is a top priority at the Lucerne School of Music. Theoretical knowledge and an appreciation of the history of music are blended together with care and precision.
Enjoying national and international links, the School maintains collaborative relationships with various jazz festivals in Switzerland and other well-known institutions. The School's own HSLU Big Band directed by David Grottschreiber presents a wide repertoire of classics from traditional big band to contemporary material.
The Master of Arts in Music Major Jazz Performance incorporates components required for a professional career as a jazz performer and prepares students for a life of creativity in all its various forms. During their studies students can choose from a variety of specialisations that help them express their own artistic vision and strengthen their musical individuality. The Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy is aimed at those who later wish to teach music.
