Departure into the digital future of music
Digitalisation means change and innovation, chances and perspectives; it is the present and the future – in music as much as in other areas. This master’s programme with a major in Music and Digital Creation places digital transformation firmly at the centre and teaches students to express their creativity using state-of-the-art methods.
To support our students in their personal areas of interest, we cross over the fields of Data Science and Digital Creation with artistic, theoretical and pedagogical practice. Moreover, the students realise their own projects, for which they receive individual tuition.
This degree programme is therefore the ideal choice for candidates wishing to express their passion for music using digital skills.
Personal encounters with music and digital transformation
The Major in Music and Digital Creation is a cooperation project of the Lucerne School of Music and the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology. This unique, future-oriented programme creates, develops and establishes new forms of learning, teaching and conducting research.
It also fosters the emergence of new digital approaches to performing. Based on a wide range of elective modules, students can create bespoke curricula according to their personal needs.
It allows them to combine their musical creativity with digital know-how and to independently choose the destination of their personal journey.
Digital first: Music meets Data
The master’s programme with a major in Music and Digital Creation offers multiple options for individualisation and compatibility with all university-level musical degrees. The programme’s core content is structured along «Digital Qualification», «Musical Qualification» and «Degree Qualification».
The area of «Digital Qualification» encompasses the two foundation modules «Digital Basics» and «Digital Music Basics» as well as the «Data Science and Digital Creating» block. The latter consists of a series of required elective modules that students can choose according to their individual profiles.
«Musical Qualification» is attained in the «Lab» module that is available in the form of individual (e.g. Instrumental or composition classes) or group tuition (e.g. instruction in the areas of Music Science or Music Pedagogy).
«Degree Qualification» brings together both areas – both in a preparatory semester project (as well as in some «Digital Qualification» modules) and, later, in the concluding master's project.
