David J. Smith is Head of Music at the University of Northumbria. He specialises in early keyboard music, particularly that of England and the Low Countries, and in editing English instrumental music. Musica Britannica published his volume of consort music by Philips and Dering, and works from it were recorded by the Rose Consort. He is a general editor of the Ashgate Historical
Keyboard Series, published by Routledge, in which Aspects of English Keyboard Music appears. He performs on organ, harpsichord and recorder, and was director of the Choir of King’s College, Aberdeen.
