Databases and Big Data Management Generating value with data

Intelligent data management enables the generation of knowledge from data and its profitable use, both economically and socially.

There is a growing abundance of digital data. Big Data brings new challenges in terms of data volume, speed and diversity. Often, conventional solutions are no longer sufficient, for various reasons: large data volumes, a wealth of different formats or the demand for fast data generation. With the help of innovative methods, large amounts of data can be processed and combined with various data sources. Knowledge can be extracted, edited in a comprehensible way and made easily accessible so that users can act and decide based on the knowledge extracted from data.

Researchers at the Lucerne School of Computer Science and Information Technology support and advise partners from business and academia. They develop methods, models, processes, systems and the software required to handle and analyze Big Data. These are programmed as software and tested and evaluated by partners under real-life conditions. The knowledge gained allows them to improve methodologies and to develop innovative products or processes for business and research partners.

The researchers involved in the program advise and support partners with both established and experimental approaches. They test and implement all necessary steps from raw data to valuable knowledge with application potential. To this end, they research procedures and theories in the fields of data management, sensor data, knowledge representation, data analysis and data mining.
