Our campus is your playground: Submit your idea for a vibrant campus and a sustainable future

Your Project can be an initiative that makes campus life more collaborative, inclusive and/or vibrant. It can be a project that reduces individual footprints or that makes sustainability visible and tangible on campus. Whether ecological, social, technical, or design-oriented – what matters is that your project takes place on Horw campus and your desire to make a difference.

Examples include initiatives to reduce energy consumption, repair cafés, cinema screenings for neighbourhood and students, pop-up activities for the campus community, urban gardening, sustainability challenges, trails and games, sharing initiatives, awareness campaigns, technical innovations, sustainable usage concepts for spaces, etc. We are sure your team will come up with even better ideas!

All students from the university of applied science and arts are eligible to participate. However, at least one team member must be enrolled at the School of Engineering and Architecture (T&A), and the planned activities must take place at Campus Horw.

For students in the Bachelor’s programme at T&A, the implementation activity (in a winning team) can be recognised as a social project with 3 ETCS. Recognition is subject to the implementation guidelines («Implementation Guidelines 7 – 2024/2025»). The ‘Social Project’ module can only be completed once during the entire Bachelor’s programme. For Bachelor's students, recognition of the project implementation with 3 ETCS is therefore only possible if the module has not yet been completed. No application for a social project needs to be submitted to the head of degree programme for recognition. Enrolment in the module will be handled directly by the Bachelor’s and Master’s secretariat once the winning teams have been announced.

Students in the Master of Science in Engineering programme can apply for a reduction of 3 ETCS in VM1 or VM2 at the Bachelor’s and Master’s Secretariat.

For the Master of Arts in Collaborative Spatial Development, the project implementation can be credited as a supplementary module / individual specialization with 3 ETCS.

For students in the Master of Arts in Architecture, the project implementation can be credited as a keynote / basic lectures with 3 ETCS.

Students from other departments are asked to clarify any potential credit recognition directly with their programme director. We’re happy to support you with this process if needed.

Please note: Registration is binding. Submitted project ideas may be withdrawn until 13 July 2025. After this date, students from the winning teams will be enrolled directly in the corresponding module. Withdrawal from the module will not be possible at a later stage.

• Contribution to sustainable development: How does the project contribute to ecological and/or social sustainability on campus? (0-3 points)
• Campus relevance and visibility: Does the project have a clear connection to Campus Horw? Is it visible, tangible, or accessible to the campus community? (0-2 points)
• Feasibility: Can the project be implemented realistically within the autumn semester 2025, considering time, resources, competences, and budget (CHF 3,000 max.)? (0-2 points)
• Novelty of solution: What is the problem to be solved? How is the solution novel and innovative? Do we already have something similar on campus? How is it different from prior solutions? (0-3 points)
• Participation and community impact: Does the project strengthen interaction, engagement, or involvement of others at Campus Horw? (0-3 points)
• Diversity and inclusiveness: How are diversity and inclusiveness addressed? Does the proposal consider different needs? Does it include a broad range of campus users? Is it accessible? (0-2 points)
