Sustainability research Ensuring a high quality of life in the future, too

The Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture contextualises and reflects on its research activities with the Swiss Confederation’s energy and climate strategy and, internationally, with the UN’s SDGs, always against the background of current challenges such as the COVID pandemic.

Energiestrategie 2050

Energy Strategy 2050

The researchers at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture are confident that the ambitious goals set by the Swiss Confederation in its Energy Strategy 2050 can be achieved through solution-oriented cooperation between business, politics, research and society.

SDG – 17 Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung

Sustainable Development Goals

The UN Agenda 2030 is a global plan to promote long-term peace and prosperity and to protect our planet. Researchers at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture are valiantly supporting the Agenda’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Gesundheit

Health

Ensuring a healthy life for all people of all ages and promoting their well-being: this is a goal set by the United Nations within the framework of sustainable development. Research groups at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture are working on various topics with the self-same aim. This is also the case in the context of new challenges, such as those related to the current COVID pandemic and its management.

Klima

Climate protection

Climate change and the densification of the urban realm are increasingly leading to heat islands in urban neighbourhoods. This negatively affects comfort, health and energy demand. This, in turn, gives rise to potential for new types of glazing or shading, the practicalities of which researchers at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture are keen to exploit with their cooperation partners.

Examples of project

circularWOOD
What is required to ensure that the circular economy can be implemented in timber construction? The Typology and Planning in Architecture Competence Center in the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture is preparing scenarios for the decommissioning and recycling of building components as part of this project. The findings are being summarized in political briefings, illustrations of areas in which action is required and practical recommendations. Further information ...
