BIOTESC Open day On Friday, June 19th, 2026

Space exploration. From Hergiswil.
Did you know that from Hergiswil, scientists support astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) with a wide variety of biological experiments? The Biotesc Center at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts serves as ground support for the European Space Agency’s (ESA) biological and medical space experiments – right on your doorstep.

Once a year, we open our doors to the public. Come on by, take a look at our control room, and bring the whole family.

Free, no registration required

*All children are welcome when accompanied by their parents; however, we recommend this event primarily for children in second grade and above.

Program

3:15 PM

Guided tours of the Space Center, including the control room. Tours depart every 30–45 minutes.

from 4 PM

Barbecue get-together on the grounds: We'll light the fire, you bring the food. Drinks will be available for purchase on-site for a small fee.

7 PM

End of the event

What to bring

– Food for grilling (fire and charcoal are provided)
– Weather-appropriate clothing: The barbecue will take place outdoors
– Curiosity! That’s all you need

How to get here

By train

From Lucerne with the S4 and S5 lines of the Zentralbahn railway, Hergiswil Matt stop. A footpath is signposted from the station to Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

By car

From Lucerne: Take the Hergiswil exit toward the city center. After the highway bridge, take the first exit at the roundabout, then turn right to Obermattweg 9 (red building with flags). Visitor parking is available behind the building (limited spaces). Additional parking options: Acheri parking lot, Sonnenbergstrasse (paid parking).
