Colour, recycling, textile design, design research, circularity, sustainability
Textile production is resource-intensive, and the textile industry is responsible for a significant proportion of global environmental impacts. The fiber-to-fiber recycling sector is seen as a beacon of hope in the context of creating a sustainable, circular textile industry. These current developments are being used as an opportunity to examine one of the most environmentally critical areas of the industry: textile dyeing. Specifically, the research results should contribute to the understanding of dyes as a valuable resource that must be preserved for a second life cycle or beyond. In her dissertation, Tina Tomovic aims to describe today's unsustainable coloring processes in the textile industry and in design in particular; explore ways in which colors can be rethought in textile recycling; build bridges to the recycling industry; and communicate best practices to designers and design students.
