A research visit usually lasts between one and six months. Researchers can use the facilities of the Lucerne School of Design, Film and Art, are promised a workplace in the research department, and are hosted by a specific research group. The hosting research group will provide support and integration. Additionally, it is possible to take part in exchange formats that are organized by our Research Affairs Office.
How to Apply as a Research Fellow
Research visits are only possible on the invitation of individual research group Heads. If you do not have a personal contact, but think that your research could decisively contribute to one of our fields, then please contact the Head of the Research Affairs Office.
Application materials include:
- A motivation letter that names your professional expertise and expectations for the research visit
- CV and list of publications
- Project description (maximum 3 pages)
Application materials can be submitted at any time. The selection of research fellows is determined by the respective research group. Coordination takes place via the Head of the Research Affairs Office.
Ibtissam Jayed (2025)

Ibtissam is a designer and candidate at the National PhD Program in Design for Made in Italy – Identity, Innovation and Sustainability at the University of Campania «Luigi Vanvitelli». Her research in the fields of social design and social innovation investigates collaborative and design-oriented strategies for the integration of pluri-ethnic groups in intercultural urban contexts. With a background in social sciences, design and communication, she connects decolonial perspectives with participatory, community-oriented approaches. In her work, she focuses on co-design, social participation and making informal practices visible.
Ludwig Weh (2025)

Organisation: Humboldt University Berlin
Ludwig Weh inquires topics of human and posthuman relevance in the Anthropocene, developing and employing diverse methods and frameworks within transformative research and education contexts. As a biophysicist and PhD researcher in neurobiology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, he graduated with an M.A. in futures studies from Freie Universität Berlin, where he has explored multi-stakeholder processes as elements of participatory science communication. At the nexus of futures studies and design-based research, he has inquired material-discursive, co-creative and speculative methods to study human-nature relationships within images of environmental futures as eco-social design approach. His work includes projects in applied research and knowledge transfer, and he has broad editorial, publishing, teaching and supervising experience.
