Jens Badura is highlighting the transformative role of aesthetic practices and examining how researchers and art and design schools can position themselves as agents of transformation. This online lecture is part of our PhD collaboration between Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU), Switzerland, and the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad, India.

For a long time now, there has been debate within academic circles and beyond as to whether only ‘scientifically proven’ knowledge can be considered relevant knowledge. With the increasing establishment and institutionalization of new research paradigms – in particular transdisciplinary and artistic research – new opportunities have arisen to explore the concrete epistemic potential of a pluralization of knowledge cultures. Against this backdrop, Jens Badura will present reflections from his research within the field of tension between epistemology, praxeology, and institutional theory. In particular, he will focus on the transformative potential of aesthetic practices and address the question of how we, as researchers, can position ourselves within this evolving landscape of transforming knowledge cultures and, in a more general perspective, how art & design schools can act as ‚agents of transformation’.

Prof. Dr. Jens Badura is a philosopher with strong transdisciplinary leanings. He heads the BA Creative Transformation programme at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Design Film – Art, is part of the Transformation Design and Postdisciplinary Art Research research groups, and is also co-director of the research college at the Urner Institute for Alpine Cultures at the University of Lucerne. His research focuses on practice-oriented cultural philosophy and aesthetics.
